DEATH OF RAJPAT RAI

QUESTIONS ASKED IN COMMONS NO UNNECESSARY VIOLENCE, RUGBY, Nov. 26. Questions were, asked in the House of Commons to-day, about the circumstances of the death of the Punjab leader Raj pat Ilai, with particular reference to the. allegation E | of Lajpat Rai's friends that his death resulted from blows, delivered by a police officer on the occasion of the public demonstration against the Simon Commission in Lahore. Lord Winterton (Under-Seloretary for India) replied that two inquiries had been held in into the incident at Lahore, which arose out of an illegal procession, forbidden by the police. The Secretary for India was satisfied that no more force was used than was necessary to prevent the crowds breaking through 'the barricades. There was no deliberate and unprovoked attack by the police and no individual was singled out foi< assault. No evidence had been .adducto show that Lajpat Rai's death was due to blows received trom the police.
