CORRESPONDENCE

(Whiist in common falrnoda to a* l parties the "livening; Post" will publish ail leasonabie correspondence it does not necessarily associate itself with the views expressed.) GIVE IT A NAME. TO Tnii EDITOR Si?. —This Minim chap isee.Ms to have, ft hard time of it, and the. only measure of relief lie seems, to be able to command is to write to the "Post" and! blow off steam. However, lie manages to bo pretty vague, despite his volubility, and the. only thing one can be certain of is thajt. he wants to see a great many morei people, playing the violin. From this one. might be pardoned for coming to the conclusion that he is a dealer in fiddles, that he has a big stock on hand, and that he is very anxious to make a clearance. I hope he may soon get rid of alt llis squeak-boxes and cease from troubling. Seriously, however, presuming that it is a fact that more squeak-box operators are needed ,surely Minim or somebody else could come to light ,with some practical suggestion as to how tJia number of operators is to be increased. Perhaps I cannot write very calmly about the fiddle., believing that "squeak-box'! 1 is the. only name to adequately describe it, and that it, like its brothers .the squeakbag (the bagpipe) and the bubble and squeak bag (The haggis), should be taken in moderation, but I do think that Minim or some others of the squeak-box rooters (if there are any) should give it a name, and! say what he wants done. —I am, etc., MUSIC LOVER. Stratford, November 28th 1928.

THE ELECTION. Pear Sir.—My attention has been drawn to a paragraph, appearing in your, paper or', re.ce.ns issue referring to the number of people who did not vote. You state that in 1928 out of 9.725 people on the Roll, 1466 did not vote. The figures are far from correct and very misleading. The position is as woUows:— The Main andl Supplementary Rolls contain the names of 9.725 elMors, but there ar Q 68Q deletions appearing at the, end, of the. Supplementary Roll which leaves die actual roll strength at 9.045. In the Referendum vote that w:is taken there wag '4,582 for Continuance, 465 for State Control, 3,090 for Prohibition and 122 Informal, making a total of 8,259 votes accounted for, this',leaves only 786 who did not vote.—l am, etc., L. 0. HOOKER. Hawera, November 28.
