HIS HUMANITARIAN INSTINCT.
SORRY FOR THE ANIMALS. SO HE LET THEM GO. (Special to Post). AUCKLAND, Lasi Night. Johnnie Walker's shop where Jive exhibits of birds and animals of all kinds are kept was a centre oft at-* traction, last nightThere was a crash of breaking glasa and, soon afterwards a group of fox terriers began to towards the Town Hall, .Dogs of otber breeds began to gambol in the roadway and a stray Skye terrier, or ! two was seen streaking in the direction of Upper Queen Street. Asi the dogs kept coming out of Walker'si establishment, a large, and interested crowd quickly gathered, and the spectators were intujgued whem a large hand was pushed through the doorway to extend a disk of water with the invitation, "Drink up, puppy A "i and "C'mon pup, pup, pup," etc. It was evident that all was not well inside- A constable soon arrived audi discovered inside the building a hilarious man who had evidently got there by breaking the glass panel in tlie door. He later explained that he had taken pity on the poor dogs on view and that his humanitarian instinct had decided to let them go for a run. It was possible that his kindness would have extended even to the birds, but for the timely arrival of the policeman. There were smiles as the policeman took his obviously inebriated charge away to the lock-up.
