The rules governing the competit* ion provide that the ranking list shall be open from October Ist to April HOth, Any player on the list may challenge only the player next above, but the committee hUs power to arrange matches between any players. If a player provides a sufficient excuse for not playing a game, the person next below him on the ladder takes his right of challenge. If such, a challenger -wins the intervening players shall move a step d(own the ladder, but if the challenger loses the pos- f itions on the ladder will remain unchanged.. • The defeated may not again challenge the same player for a period of ten days. Challenges must be lodged in writing with the Ladder secretary. A challenge or challenging player shall not receive or issue a challenge until the standing match has been decided. The Laddier Committee has tfie power to remove any player from the ladder at its discretion. All matches are to be played op grass courts.
