MRS CORBETT FAR SWELLED,

A very pleasing gathering took place in the Toko Hall last night, tins occasion being a farewell to Mrs F. E. Corbett, who is leaving to take up her residence in Hawera.

The Kev. J. MacGregor, of Strat- ’ ford, who occupied the chair, said he was pleased to see so many present ( on sucli an inclement night. The good attendance showed the high respect in which Mrs Corbett was held by her neighbours. The function had been arranged very hurriedly, as they had only heard at the end of the week that Mrs Corbett was leaving so soon, and therefore many who would have liked to attend had been unable to do so. Mrs Corbett had been resident in the district Tor a, long time. The pioneers had many difficulties to contend with .and to them +W present generation owed a, debt of gratitude. Of those difficulties and hardships the pioneering women ha hadl their full share. His knowledge of Mrs Corbett ‘extended to barely three years, but in that short time he had found out how generally respected she was. He also handed her a cheque as a further mark of her friends’ esteem, Messrs Were, Outhard and .H. Thompson also spoke appreciatively of l.lie guest of the evening and those present sang ‘‘For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow'.” Mrs Corbett suitably replied thanking lipr friends for their gifts and good wishes, and 1 Mr Bernard Corbett also returned thanks on behalf of Mrs Corbel 1., and spoke of her good qualities as a mother. During the evening vocal items wen? given by Mesda.inoc Reynolds and Morrison, of Stratford, and Miss ' C. Milne. Mr Austin Sextus gave a ' song, and a violin solo, being accom- 1 panted on the piano by Ids sister, Miss L. Sextus.
