STRATFORD ELECTION.

I’O IHE EDITOR Sir, —Mr Poison specially invites Electors to hear him on Economic and Fanners’ Problems, hut when the Industrial Conference, was willing to hear him he voiced views prepared by a Professor who received twenty-five guineas of Farmers’ Union funds fordoing so. He is somewhat feebly acclaimed as a man of proved ability, but apparently he did not feel competent to advocate the farmers viewpoint himself. He is a largo landowner himself, and yet condemns land aggregation. He was announced as the United Party candidate after a conference of delegates held in Stratford and then repudiated the United Party candiature, but again attendee! the United Party conference in Wellington, Ho admits that team work is necessary, hut tic has no policy calculated to effect improvement, and is not allied to any Party. His attitude is merely one of futile destructive criticism, and' ho offers no remedy.

As President of tlie Farmers’ Union ho advocated compulsory Dairy Control and now ho would repeal same. The Farmers’ Union is essentially non Party and' consists of members holding differing political views. By attempting to enter the political arena its President involves the Farmers Union in party politics which, if persisted in, must inevitably break the Union up. Ho knows the Wanganui district well, and he is well known and has large interests there, but he prefers to stand 1 for Stratford where his knowledge is very' limited and his interests unknown.

“Where a man’s treasure is there will his heart he.”—l am. etc. FARMETC.
