BOWLING

THE STRATFORD OLUB.

COMPETITIONS FOR THE YEAR.

The Stratford Bowling Club is thu* season making a departure from tbe practice of holding numerous club competitions, and apart from the championship contests in senior, B> grade and colt sections, there will bo only two continuous competitions. For the purpose of these competitions it is necessary to classify aB playing members arid to allot them permanent handicaps. In the handicap pairs compefctfr. 'ion the system of coupling senior and' junior players has been abolished, and couples will be chosen by drawing names from ta box. Dates of progress will be fixed, sc/ that there will be no delay in reaching finality. Tlue other continuous competition is new to Stratford, and is called the percentage fours competition. Alt members have been classified as leads, seconds, thirds or skips, amt the competition will /apply to all full' rink games played on Thursdays and Saturdays, including banner and inter-club matches when so decided by the committee. The ’method is simple. No matter how the personnel of a four is mad© up, each man in ia rink will mark a win or a loss against his own name on a large chart in the pavilion. At the end of the season the four highest leads, seconds, thirds and skips .will bo ballotted into tdvms and a semi-final and final played to determine the champion rink of the club. The method of reckoning highest players in each classification will ho on a percentage basis, so th© number of games pliyed by individual members will not affect his average number of wins. The committee ha.s laid it down that in order to qualify for the 'semi-finals a player must take part in 66 per cent, of the notified games. An advantage of this competition is that if a number of players assemble on the green with no parti-’ cular match in view, teams can he made up hv extracting numbers from a box, and the game will count in ihe competition.
