SEAMEN WILL DEMONSTRATE
TO PROTECT JOHNSON, DEPORTATION POSSIBLE. SYDNEY, Oct. 23. The seamen to-day decided to attempt a huge demonstration by the trades unions in the event of any effort to deport Jacob Johnson, and, as protest against his imprisonment for intimidation of seamen in the recent cooks’ strike, his pay as an official of the Seamen’s Union is to continue while ho is in gaol.
The meeting adopted a resolution, according to uu official statemem, that Johnson’s imprisonment was wrongful, and allegations were made at the meeting that thp prosecution was instigated by the opposing faction headed by Mr Tom Walsh. The Newcastle Seamen’s) Union discussed the Johnson faction and refuses to recognise Johnson .
