“STRATFORD EVENING POST” THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 1928 RAILWAY EXCURSION.

IN February next, a railway excursion is to be run! to (Stratford to en. able people from Wellington to visit the Stratford Mountain House. February is a long, way off certainly, but if the excursion is to be n- "Success it i s necessary that the perlirainarv ■arrangement's be not too long delayed. A 1 little time ago the Railway Department ran a similar excursion to Hawera wbieb was made the base for a trip to Dawson’s Falls. Hawera rose to tbe occasion noblv, and the oxcnrs'ion was an unqualified success from every point of view. The townspeonlc gave tbe committee responsible all possible assistance, and n-1-though at first there seemed to be a. likelihood of some trouble arising in regard to transport this was speedily overcome and sufficient private cars provided for requirements. Stratford lias a splendid chance of putting itself on the mab in February and it is to be( hoped that full advautUge will be taken of it. Tbe East Committee should receive every assistance, and no doubt will get a good deal. Th,g Automobile Association which is a very live body, and cue that is always mvake to anything likely to benefit the town, will assn is eclly co-operate as will in all probability the Borough Council, tbe Progress League, and tbe Chamber of Commerce. It is, in a case like this, that the Committee composed of public Kind semi-public bodies representatives as suggested in these columns last week, could, render a great deal of valuable assistance'. That committee should! be formed without edlay, not only to look' after matters in connection with the camp site, but to attend to everything likely to ■assist in pushing tbe town forward. An excursion bringing a large manb'M* of visitors is going to prove of very great benefit, and it is to be hoped the fact will be realised.
