SEDITIOUS LITERATURE. BOOKS ADVOCATING VIOLENCE. AUCKLAND, Last Night. As a 1 result of a raid By detectives at his house at Oheliuhga on July 14, when a number of hooks were seized, Sidney Scott, aged 28, student, grocer and secretary of the Auckland branch' of the Communist Party, appeared before Mr. Hunt, S.M., to the police Court here this morning on chatge of having in his possession for sale or distribution books’ entitled “Elements of Political! Education” and “Party Training Manual” which advocated violence and expressed seditious intentions. He was also charged with importing these books. Scott admitted the first and third charges, but pleaded not*guilty to the second. Counsel for accused said Scott h,ad .no intention of distributing the books but the magistrate held he did and imposed a fine of £5 on ‘the first charge. He convicted him and ordered him to pay costs on the third charge. Decision was reserved in the second charge.
