ALARMIST REPORTS OF MASSACRES.
United Press Assu.—By Electric Telegraph Copyright. (Received 10.0 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Sir Herbert Murray, Lieutein-ant-OoTernor of Papua, lias just arrived here. He deprecates the alarmist reports of massacres and tribal rising inj New Guinea, and declares that the residents regard these reports as a joke. Nevertheless, they do the country a lot of damage. One affray cost nine lives,, whereas the report stated, lire hundred were dead, which was a pure fabrication. — Australian Press Assn.
