FROM "POST"' SPECIAL CO-RESPONDENT. 3WDHIRST CDRBeWoNBEN CE. Recently quite a gloom was east over our little township when it hecame known that our ex-schoolmast-er had somewhat suddenly passed away. Mr Mail cam e from ,-loath- ' land' some twenty three or four years ago, atfd occupied the ponton of headmaster at our local sch >oi until about two years ago, *nen he retired on superannuation and took up his residence in New Plymouth. During the par years ho 'wm the untiling secretary of the Pamd, I Committee, and rode many hmdreds of miles on his bicycle to get in touch with the friends and relatives of our departing or returning soldier boys, as also in the days of the epidemic he did a tremendous amount of work, reading temperature, and in ail possible ways rendering help. . He was also superintendent of the Methodist Sunday School for many years, and in addition to the duties already mentioned he was a prorotaent nienroer of the Masonic Lodge, and wa s very highly esteemed among the members, who attended his funeral in large numbers. The annual meeting of the Methodist Ladies' Guild was held at Mrg \V. Vickei's' residence, Radnor Road last week. There was a very large attendance. it was resolved that all office bearers retain their office for the next year. These are- President, Mrs G. Smith; trea- ' Sll rer Mrs Burton; Hon. secretary, Mrs Guthrie. It was decided that the annual Guild social be held on Tuesday, August 28 in the Church, when the balance-sheet for the past yea r will be read. After the business of the meeting was concludl o d a daintv afternoon tea, was handI ed round, a very pleasant afternoon . being spent. i The long spell of dry weather has I at last broken, and in its place we ! are having a mild "grass growing" rain, and with the high prices ruling at home for our dairy produce and indications of an early spring, it makes the prospects of the farmer very bright indeed.
