BIG DEMAND IN AUCKLAND. SOME PITIFUL CASES. Auckland, July 23. A rush has set in for the clothing collected for the poor (and needy during the commercijal travellers' drive. Hundreds .of badly-clad men and women besoigod the city depots to share in the distribution. Many of the applicants were in pitaihly straitened circumstances. One family which received a parcel of clothing consisted of the husband and wife pud 15 children. Another married collide had 14 children. Some of the children wore very little clothing and had no change of apparel at home. One woman brought a baby which was wrapped only in a .shawl in a pram. These cases were treated as urgent, and sufficient clothing was supplied to meet all their winter needs. Queues were waiting at some of the depot s when the doors were opened. Close on 200 ex-soldiers were fitted out by the Returned Soldiers’ Association during tho day, and many of th© men waited hours before they reached their turn. Since Thursday, when tho association began distributing, 500 exsoldiers have visited the rooms in search of clothes. Only men who can ishow credentials are supplied from this depot.
