CHURCH OF ENGLAND AFFAIRS.

TO THK KIDITOB Sir, —The General Synod of the Church of England in the Province of New Zealand, recently decided to prouch Parliament to pass a Bill empowering General Synod to' alter the doctrines, rituals and formularies as laid down in the fundamentals drawn up by the early Bishops of Province. The proposed Bill has now been circulated and provides for the alteration, addition, diminution, framing, adopting, ordering or permitting the formularies, services and practises within the Church. The Bill, after providing the machinery by which the changes may be made, proposes a tribunal of appeal to whicli appeals may be lodged on the ground that the proposed change, if any, involves a change in the Doctrines and Sacraments of Christ. This tribunal is to consist of the Bishops of the several dioceses, persons in priest’s orders equal to tip?- number of the dioceses' and laymen, bemg communicants, equal to the number of the dioceses. In view of the controversy in England and the serious consequences attendant thereon, and of the nature of the changes proposed to be made in the Book of Common Prayer, (and, knowing that there is on foot a movement among certain sections of the Church in New Zealand, there are many chuch people in th.o various dioceses who are anxious that the proposed Bill should be carefully considered by clergy and laity representing the Evangelical section of the Church of England and representations made to Parliament. In order that this may be done, the writer asks that those churchmen or women in the respective dioceses who are prepared to attend a conference in Wellington fbr this purpose, would communicate immediately with the writer, Box 600, Wellington.
