MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held bust night, when there' were present ; Messrs. J. B. Richards (Chairman), ,E. H. Young, VV. MacDonald, P. Thomson, A. Orton, H. Williams, on his visit to Stratford, had been approached on the matter, and he seemed to realise the importance of the work- The work was in the hands of the Highway Hoard, and there was every indication that it would ho proceeded with lyIt was decided that in flic meantime the, matter be referred to the October meeting. Mr. Kennedy said that when the Hon. K. S- Williams was at Wliangamomona Jio was approached by a large deputation wit.li a request lor a daily-train service to .Tabora. There 'is a, big population at the Flaty and the Minister could. not sec why an' • empty—train should run back three days a week. The Chamber might back up the request. Mr. Ball, Public .Works .Engineer, said the change would involve the shitting of the engine shod to Tahora. Mr. Williamis said lie thought That should uot stand 1 in the way. At present there was a train three days a week nominally, but the train on Thursday was of very little use, as hardly any business could be done in Stratton! on that, day- At a very’ early date it would he necessary to run the train daily to Tahora. He would move that the Minister be asked to favourably consider the running of a daily train service to 'Tahora. Mr. Thomson seconded. Mr. Malone questioned it there there was sufficient business to warrant a train daily. Mr. Kennedy said there was a larggcr population round Tahora than there was round Whangamomoua. ' Mr. Mi do no asked if it would not ho better to urge the necessity of of linking up with Tangaiakau. Mr. Thomson said that communication would be possible in .about, a year. Mr. Mapalister said that if coalmining progressed as expected, there would he a population of about a hundred at the Flat after the railway works' were finished. The chairman said that if communication could be got with the TI at it would establish, business between a large population ajlid ijho 'town of Stratford 'and the population would he there for some time.
