, (Our Own Correspondent), Very severe weather has prevailed hero lately, cold rains, hail and frost, making outdoor work extremely unpleasant. The roads- out this way haves recently been blinded with the soil, etc., that had collected in the water tables, consequently with tho recent rairts, they are heavy and greasy, and it is quite a common thing for motor cyclists to get a spillWhat might have been a serious accident occurred last week, when a motor lorry skidded round one- of these greasy corners and tipped completely over. Fortunately both, the driver and the lorry escaped without serious injury.

At the “Diggers” ball held last I Friday evening, there were not bo many ladies present as usual, this was no doubt owing to the unnropitious weather. However, those who did brave the elements hid a really good time. The music for the dance wag supplied by Mr and Mrs M. Ohaincy, and Mrs A. E. Taylor ■ played an extra- Mr R. H. Murphy and Mr H. Read made capable M.C.’s. The Monte Carlo Waltz was won by Mr H, Read and Miss D. Stanford, and the ticket dance by Mr T. Iremonger and Miss M, Rogers (Douglas). A dainty supper provided by the committee was served and enjoyed by all. Those present were Mrs T. T. Murray, Mrs A. E. Taylor, Mrs Stanford, Mrs Massey, Mrs Price, Mrs Stove, Mrs Blair, Mrs Francis and Mrs: Jarvis, and the Misses Rogers (Douglas), Stanford (2). Wallace (2), G; -Rogers, Blair, Ford and Tremonger. The members of the Domain Board

have decided to hold their animal concert and dance towards the end of next week. Borne of Stratford’s best talent Hive promised to assist with the programme, and given a. fine evening, a successful function is assured. Oust Friday evening, when returning from the “Diggers” hall, in his car, Mr F. Lind, was unfortunate enough to strike a cow that was wandering on, the road. The car was somewhat damaged, hut fortunately the occupants escaped with a good shaking up. Mr H- Bowen, of Feildmg, ha s been ,dn n, visit to Mr 11. H. Wickham. _ Miss Bray has returned from a holiday spent at New Plymouth. Mrs A Bowen, who has been spending a holiday with her sister-in-law. Mrs H. Bowen, of Feildmg, i s home again. Mrs H. Hohy has returned from a visit to AucklandMr B. Kemp recently paid a visit to Auckland. •r, Mr and Mrs-Kemp’s friends will regret to learn that their eldest son is ■a patient at the Stratford Hospital.
