Press Association— Copyright WELLINGTON, Last Night. The House of Representatives met at 2.30 p.m.

Mr J. A. Nash (Palmerston North) gave (notice to ask the Minister of Education whether it proposed to introduce legislation this session giving teachers the right of appeal against non-appointment. Mr J. R. Hamilton (Awarua) gave notice to ask the Minister of Public Works whether county councils would be given a quota from the, petrol tax for secondary highway purposes.

Mr W. Lee Martin (Raglan) intimated that he would ask the Prime Minister whether the Government intended to introduce legislation this session to give effect to the recommendations of hospital boards, county councils, farmers’ unions and others that hospital finances should ' be provided out of the Consolidated revenue instead of by means of the present inequitable system. ’ On the motion of Mr P. ,Eraser (Wellington Central) the Unemployed Workers’ Bill was introduced and read a first time. The second reading was set down for July 18. : Oh the motion: of Mr H. Holland (Christchurch North) the Religious Exercises in Schools Bill was introduced and read the first time. The second reading was set down for August 1. The customary motions of condolence were moved by the Prime Minister in connection wtih the deaths of the Hon. M. Cohen, M.L.C.; the Jlon. Major Benjamin Harris, a former member of the House of Represetnatives and M.L.C.; the Hon. John Fisher, M.L.C.; the Hon. J. B. Callan, M.L.C.; Mr John Edie (a former member of the House of Representatives for Clutha); Mr Charles Lewis (a former member for Christchurch and Courtenay); Sir Westby Percival (a former member for Christchurch); Mr Hugh Joseph Finn (a former member for Wakatipu). The motions were seconded by Mr H. E. Holland, Leader of the Opposition, and were supported by other members, all of the speakers referring in appreciative and sympathetic terms to the deceased members. As a mark of respect to their memory the House at 4.5 adjourned until 2.30 p.m. to-morrow.
