ENTRIES CLOSE TO-MORROW

STRATFORD WINTER SHOW. MANY GOOD PRIZES. Entries for the Stratford Winter Show, close to-morrow evening, and the comprehensive, schedule must isurely provide a cl).iss to appeal to ■every person in the community. , A very Jiigh standard for root crops was set at the last Show, the display on that occasion being a splendid one, and it is safe to predict that the farmers of the district will endeavour to do still better ht the present Show. Root crops are a sure indication of the quality of the land, and farmers will therefore be interested in making as good a show as possible. The committee has seen to it that it will be worth while for farmers to show- Three cups can be won outright—one for most points in mangolds, another for most points in swedes, iand the other for most points in all root crops. In addition good prize money is provided in each class.

A section which is capable of considerable expansion is that for the district court of farm produce. A handsome shield, which must be won three times, is offered for competition, The shield is awarded for the best display of produce, which must be grown within the limits of any school district in the Taranaki province. . That i s the only qualification. The display need not have been grown by any one person or body. ,The best produce of the school district can be got together and exhibited by anybody at all. A little persistent canvassing should result ini a good display being gathered, and this work might well be undertaken by the children of a school or the members of a Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Club-

Good class prizes and points prizes are provided in'all sections, and pre>sent indications are that competition will hie keen in all classes, thereby increasing the honour of securing an award.
