WEHERA SHOW

TONGS. LTD.

(Published by Ararngement.)

During the first three days Of the Haw era Show great interest has been manifested in the display of Messrs Tong, Ltd., in the industrial hall. Modern industry is indeed shown at this stand, giving a complete example of new methods over old. The first item of interest is the water

trough made of pumice re-inforced concrete; these are made in 8 different sizes, up to 800 gallons. The troughs showing have been exhibited in shows throughout the North IsIsland, and there is not any sign Of depreciation from the hsui knocks of lough transport handing. Whilst unloading at Hawera, one of these pumice concrete troughs fell from a motor lorry on to a case of oil, and shows no sign of damage whatsoever. This is one proof of their stability and the ease with which they can he handled. 800 of these troughs have been sold recently. Pumice concrete pipes, from six to thirty-six inches in diameter are also on view. Great results have been obtained with these, and constant applications are being made for supplies. Flanges are included if so desired. Hundreds of these pipes have been laid around the Stratford district, especially around Toko,

where surprise was openly expressed at the rough handling they were subjected to, without causing the slightest chipping or cracking. This also applies to the water troughs and the thermos copper boiler. This pumice concrete boiler has features that are not combined in other boilers. The walls slope inwards and a hopper-shaped lire box is provided. The idea of this is to prevent the fyel from being scattered about, thus affording the utmost concentration of heat. further reinforcement is given to this boiler to prevent chipping —galvanished iron hands being used. Fifty yards, of the best wire is also used in the: reinforcing the pumice concrete. Farmers indeed, every one, will be interested in the Thermos Krotin Heater, which is a very compact article. Pumice concrete is used in this also, and it is built to hold two tins. The reader will readily appreciate the

advantage of this, as a separate, tin can be kept for boiling pig food, and a perfectly clean one for cleaning bilking maheines. The cost of operating both the boiler and the

heating is very small. The secret of the success of this business is in the careful attention given to the grading of materials, also to a thoiough knowledge of how and where to re-inforce, as w r ell as the class to use. Messrs Tonks, Ltd., of Hawera, are wholesale mamlfactin ers, and the Stratford agents are Messrs Fames’ Co-op. Association, Newton King, Ltd., and H. T. Cooper, from whom all information can be obtained.
