ANNUAL COMPETITION. REVISION RECOMMENDED. At last night's meeting of the committee of the Stratford Football Club the chairman (Mr R. Masters) brought up the-matter of the annual competition for the Dewar Shield. He said the whole thing needed reviewing. The Stratford Club's experie::..J at the last competition showod that there was a lack of i:::.-.. it on the P art of clubs. In __..,• of this lack of interest it was the duty of the Union to consider whether some alteration was not necessary. The Stratford Club had had a very hard experience. They had a right to expect more entries from senior teams, and they had a right to expect that clubs which entered teams would send their teams along to play. If a club had decided not to play then surely the Stratford Club sohuld have been notified. A draw was mode and a programme issued on the assumption that certain teams would play, but when the games started it was found that certain teams would not be playing. A FARCE. It made a farce of the competition, and it was not fair to the prolific who had been led by advertisement, to see certain teams in action. He ' believed the competition was held too late in the season. It would be better if it was held before the opening of the club matches, as a "pipe opener," when teams would b e looking for a little training. Young, to recommend the Union to review the arrangements for the competition, with a view to holding it earlier in the season. Mr Young said Easter Saturday was a suitable day for the competition.
