RAILWAY ACCIDENT

ONE KILLED ONE INJURED. MARYBOROUGH (Q), June 13 A tragedy occured with dramatic suddenness at the railway station of Gunalda, 40 miles from Maryborough, on the main line from Brisbane yesterday. Two light engines attached were running from Gynipie to Maryborough about 4.30 o’clock'. They were running through Grimalda, and weie slowing down the change, South of the station the driver of the leading engine noticed two men wallring arm in arm abont 25 yards ahead from the engines and about 10 yards from the side of the line on the station side. The driver sounded the whistle and as soon as the blast ‘finished he applied the brakes. He was alarmed to see the two men make a wild dash off the line, and to see the engine strike the both. As the two engines were tracelling at only 10 miles an hour, it was easy to pull up. One man, whose name is believed to be Jens Olsen, 32, iva s found dead on the cow-catcher. His companion Harry Johnston, 45, was thrown clear. Johnson was picked up, suffering from terrible injuries, and unconscious. Both men were shockingly injured. The Gympie ambulance was summoned, and conveyed Johnson and the body of the other man to Gynipie. It is believed that the men were labourers, working on a farm near Gundala. Johnson was suffering from sever e cuts about the head, lacerated lower jaw, fractured ribs, lacerated big toe, and severe shock and concussion.
