Mr “Dick* Childs, who contemplates spending a holiday at Norfolk Island, has iso -far been unable to secure a berth j and has been advised that he will not lie able to have a passage until the August steamer.

Members of the King’s Theatre orchestra left on holiday by this morning’s mail train—Mss Mtchell for Wellington, Miss Pelvin for Dunedin, and Mr Thriepkind for Timaru.

The Rev. Father T. J, Cahill, at one time parish priest at Stratford, underwent an operation at the Mater Misericordiai Hospital at Auckland recently. He is making good progress towards recovery.

Mr H. Trimble, a vice-president of the New Zealand Justices of the Peace Association, left for Wellington to-day, in order to be present ati a function at which a presentation will ibo made to Mr Salek, secretary of the Federation, in recognition of his work in forming the Federation) and in other directions.
