“STRATFORD EVENING POST” FRIDAY, JUNE 22, 1928. TAHORA TRAIN SERVICE.

THE request made by the Tahora settlers for a daily train service can be understood, as the present timetable is the cause of much inconvenience to those who wish to travel beyond Whangamomona. On Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, such residents can travel by train to Stratford and return the same night, but Thursday is not of much use to them, a;s it is STratford’s half-holi- i day, and they have little chance of completing much business in the afternoon. With the large population at Tangarakau the demand for the daily service gains strength, \ and surely there is likely to ho much more passenger traffic than ] was the case in the old days. Of course it is all a matter of the revenue to be derived. If it is going to be a payable proposition the railway department will be quick to give effect to the daily ''service, but that can only be ascertained by a trial. Requests have been made to the Department from other parts of the Dominion and although on the face it did hot appear as though they would he good propositions financially, on being tried they turned out so. That may be the position in regard to this, and there is a good chance that it will be so, as there is a fairly big population living beyond Whangamomona. Of course it must be admitted the Railway Department went thoroughly into the case before, hut this is a matter that can b 0 decided only by a trial, service for a period of, say, t iree months. It is to be hoped that such trial will be given, for without doubt the settlers are suffering inconvenience at present.
