SHANGHAI, June 31
Chang I’sd Lin is really dead. This announcement whs made to-day from Mukden, the date of his demise being Juno 21. The Nationalist" Central Political Council) announces the change of the name of Peking to Peiftng, meaning “northern.”
A peace statement has been issued that the northern city of ancient art ■treasures and historic remains will remain the centre of culture and will worthily fill its phtce in Chinese national life, but as the political capital of the Republic Peking is dead and must give way to Nanking. The name of the province of Chihli has also been changed to Hopei, meaning “province north of thei Yellow River.” While Hxe control of Peking is metropolitan it is regarded that Chihli will come under provincial control.
