A mesage from Houston, Texas, states-: “Governor-General Smith believes that on the event of any State desiring a certain amount of alcoholic content in a beverage, that State has the right to determine that content,” declared Norman Mack, the Democratic National Committeeman, at the opening of the Smith headquarters for the convention which will commence on Tuesday, Mack characterised the spending of millions of dollars by Australian citizens in Canada for liquor “absolutely criminal,’ adding ‘ the trouble with the American people is they do not appreciate what Prohibition has meant and does mean to-day. If they realised the hardships ( to business in this country they would not stand for it.” The statement is likely to cause a storm at the Convention. —Australian P.A. United Service.
