The owners herebave an entirely free hand in the selection of men for gaj-j leys, either through .the Union,! ' at the ships' side, or through the shipping offices. Every ance must be given by the union* officials in the selection of galley' staffs, and subject to the Union' giving an. undertaking to this effeet, the shipowners will raise no objeeffei&n to the Union keeping, lists' iit : ; its office, showing the elates ; of and re-' gistratiori"in order to facilitate priority 'of > selection. The shipowner* i are prepared under .these terms to re-engage the members of the Union on terms of the suspended 'award.' r,; .],, '. The strike, lasted fifteen weeks.' Mr Tudehope, announcing the settlement, and the decision had been greatly (influenced by., the "extraordinary attitude"- of other unions. Ho indicated the men were ready for immediate resumption. The, cooka', decision wag reached, at a mass meeting held simultaneously, with,'a meeting of the Transport' Group, where Mr Garden announced the cooks' decision which was received with cheers and groans. Mr Gardem immediately telegraphed to Mr Appletorf, chairman of the Commonwealth Steamship Owners' Association adding, the men would be ready to report for duty to-day. It is. expected that some weeks elapse before the vessels return; to ' their normal naming.—Australian Press. Association.
