CONTROL OF RUGBY

MEETING OF UNKLN. Tho Taranaki Rugby Union met yesterday evening -when there were present; Messrs <l. McLeod (in tho chair), 11, Masters, F. Neilson, J. Goodwin, R. R. Tyrer, J. Garcia, B. Fearon, IV. A. Guy, L. J. Furrie and the secretary.

WHANG A SUB UNION. Mr. R Masters deported on the formation of the Sub Union at Whangaiuoinoua, details of which have already been published. A letter from tho new Sub Union was received dealing with tho matter and expressing tlibnks for the assistance given by the Union and also Mr. Masters. Oil the motion of Mr. Masters it was decided that the new body be accepted as a Sub Union. The Whangamomona Sub Union wrote asking thnt permission bo granted for a. match against tile Tainui Sub Union on July 14 at Stratford. Mr. Masters spoke in support, saying the idea was that tire players desired to get some outside football. If they could get permission for a match on tho day when tho Stratford Winter Show would bo in progress it would be a. good tiling for the teams as well as the Show and the Union.

It was decided to permit the match to he played, the Stratford members of the Committee will take charge of the match. The New Zehland Union asked that the names he submitted of five referees' capable of controlling matches which would come under the jurisdiction of the Now Zealand Appointment Board. The matter was held over.

WANGANUI MATCH. The Wanganui Union confirmed arrangements made for tho mbit eh against Taranaki on June 4 at Wanganui and on August 18 in Taranaki. The names of referees were submitted and that of Mr. Ongley, of Tailpipe, was selected for the match on Juno 4- 1 Similar arrangements as last year will be made. The Eltliam Club applied that the Man a when ua-Tar anak i match in September be played at Eltham. The matter was held over in tlio meantime. The Waikato Union wrote confirming the date of theiri match against Taranaki at Stratford on July 12. STAR-INGLtEWOOD DISPUTE. Mr. F. J. Egglbtoa, referee in the 'Star-luglewood- match, submitted a report on Atkinson and Eon da 11 who were ordered off the field on May 12. Reports were submitted also by the clubs concerned. Star pointed out that Kendall was unconscious of having done any wrong while Inglewood stated Atkinson’s version was that the players came together after a scrum and used their Hinds to ward one another off. There was. no illfeeling and no blow was struck. Mr. McLeod said the general opinion was tho particular incident was a slight one in a match that was riot played in a good spirit. A good many obstructions took place in the match. Mr. Feaion remarked that tho matter should not ho glossed over. There was too much obstruction in games at present. Mr. R. R. Tyrer said the referee did not regard the matter in a serious light and suggested that ti caution and the standing down of the players for one Saturday would meet the case.
