SCOTTISH SOCIETY

THE ANNUAL REPORT. The following report is to be presented at the annual meeting of the Taranaki Provincial Scottish Society on Friday evening.Tbe membership of the Society now stands at 120, which is slightly less than Inst year, owing to the names of those who were several years in arrears with their subscriptions, being deleted from the roll. During the yd.tr a concert, a ball and four socials were held. The concert resulted iii! a financial loss notwithstanding the fact that an excellent programme, at popular prices, was provided. Your executive would like an expression of opinion as to the advisability or otherwise of holding a. concert in the coming- season. The financial position of the Society js .somewhat better than, last year, as there wVig .a small profit on the- year's working. The thanks of the Society aie due to the Inglowoood Scots Club, who generously gave part of the proceeds of their social ais a donation to tbe Society. The sports meeting (at Elthara, in January last, under the auspices of the Taranaki Provincial Sports Association, was in, every way a. groat success, and the organisers arc 1o be congratulated upon the efficient, manner in which it was run. As this, meeting has been allocated to Stratford for the coming season your executive would appeal to all Scots m the district —whether members of the Society or not—to give their wholehearted assistance to make this year's meeting as successful ras last year's. It is with extreme regret that your executive has to record the death'of Mr-W. S. Bremner, erne of the most enthusiastic members of the Society. Mr Bremner was a man who had a great love for the tradition a and songs of his illative land, and alwavs had the interests of the Society at heart. At the time of his death Mr Bremner held the potion of Chieftain of the Society, and had been an. office-bearer for many years. Your executive feels sure that the sympathy of the members of the Society will be with his widow and family in then- loss. Messrs J. Mormon, G Hall and J. Duncan retire from tile executive by rotation and are eligible for re-election.
