FROM "POST" SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT. WHANCAMOMONA. A football practic was held in the domain on the afternoom of April 29. I take it that our local "All Blocks" will .shortly be getting busy. The .annual meeting of the Medical Association was held on Monday bust when the old committee were re-elected, Mr. Geover was reelected secretary and Mr. Catchpole auditor. The financial position was satisfactory, considering the small membership of the Association, thanks being due to the Kohuratahi people for past help. Mr. and Mrs. Davies left on Monday for their new home at Otalri. Mrs. McKennev spent a few days with Mrs. McGuinn this week. Mr. McGregor has returned to direct further work in connection with the oil bore in Prospect Valley.

TANGARAKAU. FOOTBALL. Luring the list week-end a. friendly match Was plaved between Mangaone and the Flat. Although the raini held off, ball and ground were verv greasy and helped to spoil what might have been a spectacular game. Notwithstanding this the irfitoh had its bright incidents. HOUSEHOLDERS' MEETING The annual meeting of householders for the purpose of electing a school committee was held on Monday. The chairman, Mr. H. 11. Schwi'eters expressed regret that so few atend'ed and tnat so little ixierest was taken in educational alliiiirs^ ' Mr. Schwieteis said that the Committee had had a credit balance of £7 7s 9cl at the commencement of their' term of office. This was now built to the total of £3s' 13s Bd. Expenses during the year had amounted to £45 10s lid. The total amount of assets hkd! been £Bl % 7d. He remarked also that the work of the committee had been carried forward ismoothly and although a good deal of work had been, clone there was yet much remaining. For example, although strenuous endeavours liUd been made to have a new room added to the school/ the Department and made no move in tlie matter. Ho stated also that the headmaster, Mr. F&irbirother, was at present teaching in a coiiMd.br whicili served as h classroom for the standards 5, 6, and 7 pupils, and would have to continue to do so until the additional robin was granted. On behalf of the. committee he thanked ail those who had rendered assistance to the committee during its term of office.

Air. Fairbrother spoke on the good work dwiie by the committee and their amiabld relations with the staff. Ho mentioned the difficulties under which the staff was working. The partition between the infant and junior rooms reached only part Way to the ceiling <ahd the noise was very irritating to both pupil and teacher. As the work in the infant room was largely oral, quietness was practically an imp6ssibility as lf.tr as the junior room was conIcerned. He wished to thank the outgoing committe for its strenuous efforts to . lighten the stress caused by the cijihiped quarters. A discussion arose on the urgency of obtaining the new room and a motion was carried to the effect that representation be to the Board to expedite tlio grant for the extra accommodation. . ''

Kelly, Mrs. Taylor, Mr. Bryant, Mr. Northcott, Mr. Wipiti and Mr. Barton (secretary). PUKENCAHU. Large numbers from Eltham and St/iitford attended the opening ball held l under the 'auspices of the Social Club on April 16th. The decoration of the hall was a special feature, and a very pleasant time wag spent. The Moiito Carlo dances were won by Mr Fitzgerald and partner, Mr Iteid and Miss Carter and. Miss Mehrtens >iaid panther. At the animal meeting of the Social Club on April 23rd, the president, Mr Harris, in his report,-congratnla-tecT the club on the financial position, adding that although there was only a small balance to the credit of the club, there were no outstanding liar bilitics to be met and the hall was free of debt. He added that this showed the district realised how necessary a public hall was, and ho hoped the same interest would bo .shown ini the future. He mentioned that it"wa,s just two years since tho hall 'wa,g built. Church services are being held fortnightly by the Anglican and Methodist churches alternately, with a Sunday school in charge of Miss M. Craig, at which a large number attend. The hall had also been of the greatest assistance to social enjoyment. The president, Mr Harris, was re-elected, tas were also the secr«tafy, Mr Harper, and the auditor, Mr Wilson. Thanks to each of them was accorded by the meeting.

Muc'h enthusiasm is being displayed in football matters. Members of the team ore training hard, and a,re fortunate in having the services of Mr E. Scott, the well-known athlete, rig coach. Mr Scott is playing in the team. Mr Wilson, the schoolmaster, has undertaken to be at the hall on certain evenings to put the team through physicUl drill, and, altoge-

ther our team seems to have a chance to make a liaino for itself. They made a start by ■winning a recent friendly match against Toko. Mrs Harris lias returnee! 1 from a holiday spent in the Auckland district. Mrs Gr. Coleman lias returned from New Plymouth. Mrs Mehrteiis is at present on a holiday in Mai-ton. DOUGLAS. Mrs Bonnier and Mr H. Needham were the winners of the prizes at the first of a series, of euchre parties held on April 19th. So many were present that the supper room would not hold them and 1 the games had to- he played in the main Mill. A dance was held on Monday last for the purpose of raising funds to buy spurs for the local mounted Territorials. Tiie decoration of the hall wlis carried out in red, white and blue streamers. Tkero was a large attendance despite tjhel inclement weather, and everything went with a swing. During the evening extras v,;eve played by Misses Wilniihurst and Bilawski and Messrs. Bredow and Scott. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Meredith and partner and the spot waltz, hv Mi". Bert Wilmhurst and partner. A committee of young men supplied the supper.
