He should be in his best form next week for the Hazlett Memorial Plate at the Dunedin Jockey Club's meeting. * * T. Green's luck was out at the Egmont meeting last week. He didn't ride a winner at the meeting. Two thirds was as near as he could get. * * Goblin Market \ H being kept going in strong work, at Riccarton. * * W. M'Donald has Koauau looking in good health and he may race well among the hurdlers at the Dunedin meeting thi s week * •* By his win in the Flying Handicap at Hawera last Thursday Rieremoana will earn a 31h penalty for the Taranaki Stakes at New Plymouth.

EGMONT RACES. The Egmont Racing Club's meeting concluded on Saturday when some interesting racing was witnessed. The principal event, the Tonks 'Stakes, attracted a field of seven, and was won by the New Plymouth owned and Hawera trained Orazone. . The Waimate Handicap, the open sprint, produced the only one dividend field of. the day and was won by the Marton owned Vast Acre. , The. totalizator handled £22,121 for the day,' as compared with £22,,484 10s for the second day last year, a decrease of £303 10s. On the two days an increase of £154 10s wyis the machine handling £44,713, as compared with £44,558 10s last year. .

The principal event, the Tonics' Memorial Stakes, drew a field of seven. After alway s being handy to the leaders, Vivo and Sleepy Sol, Mr A. Alexander's Orazone took the lead entering the straight to win nicely by a lengtih from Greengrocer and Yoma. The Kawk with withdrawn from the Waimate Handicap and Vast Acre, which ran second to Reremoana, was made favourite and justified public confidence by winning nicely. There were one or. two accidents .Wing the day. In the hurdles: the 'Stratford-owned Flowing Bowl fell at the last obstacle, his rider (P. Holman) sustaining- injuries to his *iip, necessitating his removal to the Hawera Hospital. In the Electric Handicap, Boundary swung round at the start, causing Lady Quex to fall, but 'ner rider (H. Wiggins) escaped injury. Both occurrences were purely accidental. The steward (Mr A. P. Wilson) found nothing to complain of .during the day. Later events resulted:—

MATAMATA RACES. JOCKEY SUSPENDED. For Press Association. HAMILTON, Feb. 4. The Matamata Racing Club held its annual meeting to-dayi in line weather with a large attendance. The course was in good order. J. Gray, rider of Day Guard ill Hie Railway Handicap, was suspended for three months for crossing and jostling in the straight, iln the same race E. Keesing. rider of Ripon Abbey, was fined £2 for looking round during the race. Mr Sandilands, the newly-appoint-ed .steward, officiated at the meeting. The totalisator investment amounted to £13,i164, as against £13,645 on the corresponding day last year, a decrease of £4Bl.
