For the purpose' of defying superstition tli/ci members of the _ Seize Club dined at Dunkirk in circumstances which were as astonishing as any in the ages) of aJ long history of hospitality. Tlio head of the table was _ overshadowed by an authentic guillotine with a triangular bind stfuned with blood. The executioner was impersonated by a wild creature carrying a formidable knife aiicj. was accompanied by -a victim stripped for execution. A ha slept was ready to receive the head. The diners were seated at tables covered by white shrouds and lighted by ghastly flickering candles, while flic walls were draped in blUck. Members' of the Seize Club who' pride themselves in their courage in disregarding superstition say the gathering throughout was the gayest despite the gruesome surroundings.
