MR NELGON’S OBJECTIONS. PRIME MINISTER’S REPLY. WELLINGTON, This Day. The Prime Minister has sent a reply to the last letter of the solioitois tor Hon. Q. F. Nelson regarding the Samoan Commission. He informs them that the Commission was not appointed at the instance of their clients, or for their, satisfaction. It was a?-/ pointed to allow anyone who had a grievance to bring it before an impartial tribunal, and al*o to enable the Government to satisry itself, as to whether any change was advisable. • 1 The Order of Reference is a matter for the Government and not for petitioners. Mr Coates end? b.\ stating that the allegation* that there was no guarantee' against molestation of petitioners and their witnesses, was merely a deliberate affront in assuming. that the Government would be guilty of any such conduct.
