Making reference to defence .while speaking in Johannesburg, Mr Amery declared that Britain would doubtless carry the major portion of the burden, but she could not carry all. “That is a responsibility which m a natural corollary of freedom, and will in due course ensure each Dominion bearing its fair sliaie of the common task. Each Dominion must judge its own responsibilities in that matter, out it is clear that the best interest of each is also the best interest of .the whole and security for each can only be found if the whole is strong,” he said.
