LABOUR MAYOR’S HOPES, ENGLISH M.P.’S REPLY, (Special to Post.) CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. During his speech- of welcome to the British motor trade delegation! the Mayor, the Rev. J. K. Archer, said that he noticed that one of the members of the delegation was M.P. for Coventry and as a Labourman and and Labour Mayor ,he lioped that ho was a Labour M.P. for Coventry (Laughter-) , Sir Boyd-Carpenter, M.P. the member referred to, made an effective retort in the course of- his reply. He said that a pious hope had been expressed by the . Mayor that he was a Labour M-P., but as a matter of fact he was not. “I had the great privilege and pleasure,” he added, “of getting rid of one.” The retort was greeted with an outburst of laughter in’which the Mayor joined as heartily as the ’others.
