DOUBLE MOTOR SMASH

PERSONAL INJURIES SLIGHT ' _ i BLENHEIM, December 23. A curious double .motor smash occurred on the Pictoh Road, tho : two cars leaving the road at the foot of Elevation Hill and toppling into the ditch. Miraculously no one was seriously injured," but both cars were damaged and had to be left on the roadside. Mr. A, E. Turner, of Blenheim, returning from Picton, accompanied bv Mrs. Turner, Miss Turner, Mr, L. Brooks (factory representative for General Motors Ltd, Wellington), and Mr. F, O. Walker (sales manager for General Motors, Ltd.), was overtaken near the foot 0 f the hill by Mr. A. E.' Woodman, of Blenheim, who was accompanied in a three-seater runabout by Mrs, Woodman and Mrs. Coldwell, of C'hristchurch. Rounding the bend Mr. Turner's car, travelling at a fair-, ly high speed, skidded in . tho loose gravel and was thrown off tho road, sliding along on itis side for some distance, (before tinning up&jide down and crashing on ; 0 its other side The occupants, naturally, were thrown, ,into a heap inside the vehiofc, and were showered with splinters*! glass,

but were fortunate enough to escape with only minor injuries. Mr, Walker sustained a torn shoulder muscle and Miss Turner had to have a cut in her head stitched up* but the injuries to the others were of a minor character, except that all had :\ severe shock. Mr Turner's car was a new one and uninsured. It was very,badly wrecked, the damage probably running into well over £IOO. Mr Woodman, after passing the' .other cay, had his attention attracted by the crash and, in endeavouring to see what had happened, inadvertently pulled his own car off the road. It did not capsize, however, >.nd the damage was confined to the front wheels and the axle. Mr. Woodman and his passengers were unhurt.
