Curteis, who recently resigned his position as organised teacher under 15 the Taranaki Education Board, which he had held for the past six years, has been appointed headmaster of the school at Te Hapara, ■a ■ suburb of Gisborne. It is a Grade YII, school, which means substantial promotion for Mr Curteis. Mr Curteis is an ,cld resident o£ Taranaki, taking up his residence in the province in 1904, when he was in charge of the Mokoia Model School, under the Wanganui Education Board. • He has taken a prominent part in the affairs of the Educational Institute, being president of the Taranaki branch for many years. He has also been prominent in sport, especially hockey, and for two years he has been organiser for the Primary School Rugby Union, doing splendid work for that body. Mr Curteis is, further, well known as a bowler, being a keen player.
