SHOULD . NOT. BE REPEALED. LOCAL LAND AGENT’S VIEWS. Some few days ago the Prime Minister was approached by a deputation of Auckland land agents, ,who asked that tli e -Rent Restriction Act ho repealed. .It was pointed out that in Auckland there were a large- number of empty houses available ; and the lifting of the rent .restrictions would entail no hardships on tenants. In discussing this matter this* morning, a local land agent*, said.that although there may bo a-number of vacant dwellings available in Auckland, that did not apply to other parts of the Dominion, in. Stratford Til one there was a great .shortage or houses to let. and there were a large, number of people who could not obtain dwellings. He expressed ~ the opinion that it would he a.bad thing for tenants'' if the Act were not in operation, and he thought that if it were repealed, in many cases rents would he increased. Tenants would .then have no option but to pay or get out, and if they took'the latter course they would not he able, so long as the shortage- continued) to .get other houses.
