BASUTO ASSEMBLY
THIRTY THOUSAND PRESENT. A RECORD GATHERING. (Argus). (Received 11.55 a.m.) Capetown, September 10. Unusual interest attaches to the great Ba.suto pitso, or national assembly, opened to-day at Maseru by the Earl of Athlone. Over thirty thousand natives were present, many having ridden miles over the hills. This is said to be the biggest pitso on record in Basutoland under imperial rule. No European is allowed to own land in the country, which also is under stricter prohibition regulations than America.
