The Daily Herald, j n an editorial on Labour, and the future of the Empire, states that none of the Imperialists really nude'stands the meaning ol the British Commonwealth of .Nations. They are living in the past. Labour looks to the future and sees that common amis' and ideals will he a Car stronger Itond between Britain, the Dominion!? and India than artificial trade arrangements or naval and military fetters. Labour recognises the fact that the days of the old exchange of manufactures for the colonies' raw material are passing . and that the Dominions are seeking to manufacture their own raw material. Free trade within the Umpire would be worth anything, and might lead to world free trad-, but preferences were merely politieans' playthings, devised chiefly with the object of keeping the Empire together as a war flower;
