Stratford L & P. Assn.

COMMITTEE MEETING. A meeting of the general committee of the Stratford A. and P. Association was held on Saturday, when there was a good attendance of members, Mr L. T. Aylward presiding. The matter of reduced entrance fees lor members of kindred Associations for the horse section was left to the conference of A. and P. Associations on Tuesday. The Committee's report stated (inter alia) that they had appointed a canvasser for the purpose of enrolling new members, as it was recognised that this was the test method of getting in touch with farmers. Schedules were now being printed and would be ready for circulation about the end °* tne month. In moving the adoption of the report, the chairman said he was glad to state that the various judges had readily agreed to act at the show. The motion carried at the last meeting recommending the topdressing of the association's paddocks would be taken in hand immediately, as also would the matter of giving attention to fences and hedges. The following chairmen of sections were appointed:—Horse section, Mr J. M. Shotter; ring, Mr D. Malone; cattle and paddock, Mr J J Boon (subject to acceptance); sheep, Mr L. D. Webster; piga. Mr J. Moore (subject to acceptance); home industries, Mr W. G. Steer; junior section,\ Mr L. J. Furrie; weight guessing, Mr E. Hancock; gates, Mr C. Moore; luncheon rooms, Mr J. Cdow; tea kiosk, Mr D. M. Clarke, grandstand, Mr E. S. Walker; water, Mr W. Judd; milk, Mr B. Orr; judges' steward, Mr J. B. Richards; railway, Mr R. Wood.. Messrs. J. Robins and A. David were appointed to fill the vacancies on the farm committee. It was left in the hands of the chairmen of the various sections to appoint their own stewards and inform the secretary ten days before the show. The New Zealand Council of Agriculture referred the following resolutions of the annual conference to the association for consideration:— (1) That in the purebred cattle sections of shows, all cows and heifers in millk must be milked in the presence of stewards not earlier than 4 p.m. on the day preced ( ng judging; (2) that the Council'of Agriculture make representation to the Government that qualified veterinary surgeons be appointed to large dairy district?; with the suggestion that the cost of same be met by a Government grant subsidised by local factories; (3) that it is desirable to endeavor to arrange some measure of federation of the varous farmers' organisations in the different provincial districts to deal with matters of common interest to farmers generally. It was decided to support the recommendation without enforcing it.

The matter of forming a federation of farmers was left to the Taranaki associations' conference. Regarding support for a veterinary surgeon in the district, the secretary was instructed to obtain all information possible, and to report to a future meeting. Mr Campbell Jackson-moved that in future all ribbons won at previous shows be allowed to be worn during the grand parade at the next Stratford Show. Mr Shotter move a as an amendment that only cliam pion and reserve champion animals be allowed to carry previous decorations. This was defeated, and the motion was carried on a show .of hands. 0
