A Press Association message from Auckland to-day states that Herbert Mauall/ a resident o£, Arehhill, was knocked down by a tramcar while crossing the road last night, and not expected to recover. The Stratford railway station on the departure of the mail train this morning, wag crowded with High School pupils and friends of the football and hockey players returning to Feilding after their stay in Stratford. Hearty cheers were given on their departure. According to statistics furnished by Mr 0. K. Holt (postmaster) ; the rainfall for August was : 3rd 1.63, 4th 1.92, 6th .11, 6th .06, 15th .61, 16th .16, 17th .62, 19th .18, 20th .29, 21st .07, 31st 1-38. Total for the month 6.92 inches.
