ARCHITECT’S REPORT. Painting and General Repairs.— Cardiff: General painting and repairs tb both school and residence are also well on towards completion. At the school wo have erected the partition and lined only one side in the meantime pending a grant from the department. Plans.—Plans' have been complete;’ and applications made. Pembroke School.—ln regard to instructions to report on the abort school with a view to re-modelling I have to say that I am unable to recommend the above school as suitable for re-modelling, A new schoo is required to replace the prosen, structure. Care of schools and residences.—J am forced to give a gentle reminder in a general way to many teachers and committees in regard to the care of the board’s property. There is a little too much leaning on the board to have certain things attended tr what would not bo needed if a little forethought was exorcised on tin

part of tlie teacher or committee. 1 have in mind tho case of a big stchoos where we have renewed 3 over 30 blinds recently and two years ago tho blinds wore put in good order. W r e not only had to rpnow the blinds but most of the blind rollers had disappeared. Tlie windows of schools aro continually left open all night with the blinds left unrolled with the re- . suit that they aro flapping in and out all tho time. A small opening in tho top 'is quito sufficient and tho blinds should be rolled up every' night. 1 In regard to residence.'! I have to point out that continual complaints are made about the boilers being uu nt out in the ranges. This is really carelessness on. the part of teaehers who occupy the residences, I also received a complaint about ai

shelter shed that had holes in the roof and required now iron; the cause was through lack of control \ when the children were the j garden tools.; they amused themsel- i ves by jambing them through the r-of. I kno-yvi of several cases of this sort and there are many other instances of want of care but I do not wish to stress the matter. Those teachers and committees who are ca eful and look after the board’s pnperiy need not take any notice of my complaint and those who do not exorcise the same care must take notice.

Included in a list of recommendations by the manual and technical committee were the following; That the board be recommended to award the Cuthbert Shield to the Okaiawa, school for the present year in accordance with the report,, supplied; that Mr White’s offer to provide further name plates for the Tisch Shield bo accepted, and 1 g’ade 1 and 3 schools be notified that it is open for competition among schools of these giades in accordance with the report supplied; that the thanks of the board bo conveyed to the gentlemen examining schools for the purpose of making the Cuthbcrfc Shield award; that the matter of the purchase of a motor-car for Mr. Culppn, woodwork instructor at Stratford, be referred to the financecommittee to report to the next meeting of the beard—Adopted Mr. Sim s gave notice of motion that the day of meeting bo altered to the 1 fourth Wednesday li n each month.

The following committees were sett up for the following year: Finance and building, Messrs Lees, IVlnto, Masters and Eaves; appointments and manual and technical, Messrs Smith, Dempsey, Sims, and Doare; reserves, Messrs Masters, Dear©, Eaves and Sims.

The Board pasod the following resolution .-—“That this board notes wfith pleasure the interest which members of agricultural societies, and of Farmers’ Unions, teachers, instructor;! and supervisors continue to take in the boys’ and girls’ agricultural clubs, and is of opinion that great good must come, not only to the children taking part, but to thei whole community by the continued interest of and demonstration work accompanied by the pupils.”
