TOWN CLOCK.

(T© the Editor, "Stratford Evening Post.")

Sir, —Ratepayers will notice that, in accordance with a. resolution of I the Council, a poll will be taken on 2Gth September next asking for authority to borrow £loOO for the purpose of purchasing a chiming clock, and erecting same in the tower of the new Post Office. The clock is to l>e erected as a permanent memorial in honour of the men of Stratford and district who served in the great w»r, 1914-18, South Africa, 1900-02. 1 know that some ratepayers are mildly protesting against tho present increase in the rates, and it is my intention to call ratepayers together before the poll is taken and talk over with them the proposed clock loan and other matters, including rates. I hope there will be a large attendance of ratepayers at this meeting, and that they will consider also tho question of tho advisability of forming a< Ratepayer* Association. An* Association of this sort, in my opinion, would be of incalculable benefit to the town, and.thoir ad vice aud recommendations would, I am sure, be welcomed by the Borough Council.—l am, etc., j. w. McMillan, Mayor.
