The Geneva correspondent of the Daily Express says Spahlinger’s fortune of £BO,OOO is exhausted, and he is in debt to the extent of £60,000 through his experimentings. But Spahlinger refuse a most tempting offer to commercialise his cure, as ho Insists that exploitation of the specific would result in inferior serums, while it would place the remedy beyond the reach of the poor and prevent thd publication of the formula to the world when the time was ripe. Spahlinger refused a, preferred fee of £4OOO to treat a patient. He also ignored an offer of £60,000, with a half share in. a company, the formation of which was suggested to manufacture the serum.

Recently Spahlinger received sufficient support from Britain to enable the work to be continued for a few months, iif his creditors refrain from foreclosing, which is unlikely. A turn of £90,000 i$ required, to liquidate hi,s mortgages and keep the insitution open sufficient time to enblo the production of serum vaccine for a world test. It is impossible to produce remedies immediately because of interruption of the wiork. The attitude of the British Government is that Spahlinger has produced a prima fade cure, but the Government is unable to give financial help until the specifics produced have been tested by its experts, and the specifics cannot bo producel and tested until funds atre forthcoming. Men while, Spahlinger struggles valiantly on. His laboratory is a marvel of scientific equipment, most of which is blis own invention, and it is without a. counterpart in the world. Ouo sot of apparatus took seven years to build. His small staff of assistants are all ex-patients. Spahlinger himself is amazing. Ho works in the midst of bacilli, but is apparently impervious hi contagion.
