MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly mooting of the Stratford School Committee was held Inst night. Present; Messrs W. Pinhoy (chairman), B. Sturm, H. A. Hunt, A. Ferguson, C. M. Young, W. Abraham and. Rev. J. W. McKenzie, Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Villers and Jackson.

HEADMASTER'S REPORT. The Headmaster (Mr L. J. Furrie) reported, inter alia: During the month I instituted a rompulsory gargle. Only one parental r objection was lodged. The caretaker has made a concrete emplacement in Victoria Park for the school's gift seat. I have to thank Mr Vosseler for the donation of the cement and Messrs Davidson and Neilson for the metal. The Model School is progressing very satisfactorily under Mr Fairbrother. The ..hildren are very happy and are making good progress. The School will be ready for observation after tli.? holidays. Teachers at the School have derived much benefit from the first-aid classes conducted by Dr. Gordon. DENTAL TREATMENT. At. the previous meeting of the committee a sub-committee had been appointed to go into tho matter of arranging for regular dental treatment for children, and as a result Mr T. E. Bridger waited en the committee with a proposal, full details of which ho gave.

Mr Bridger said he had previously looked askance at school schemes, but he had visited Levm and bad seen the scheme in operation there; and what he saw there convinced him of the excellence of the system. If the committee entertained his pro-* posal ho would like t 0 at once chart the mouths of the children at the school. The work of charting would be done free of charge. It was decided that Mr Bridger be allowed to chart pupils' mouths, and this work will be done as early as possible. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Sturm, a vote of thanks was passed to Mr Bridger for the work he had done in tho matter. The chairman said that, with a little pushing the scheme should be a decided success.

Under tho scheme it is proposed that the mouths of children under nine year s of age shall be put in. ordor and kept in order for a fee of £1 )x>r annum. Children ovor nine yiears of age would have their mouths put in order for the fee' set out on their charts, the mouths to be thereafter kept in oixier at fees from £l to £l 10s per annum. VISITING COMmTTEE.

Mir Sturm reported on behalf of the Visiting; Committee. He drew attention to the reccr'ty F or purchasing a new piano, the present ono being apparently past repair. Attention was also drawn to a pool of water which collected owing to lack of a drain in Ariel Street.

The Headmaster (Mr Furrie) said that owing to the lack of a decent piano the singing lessons were held up. He would like to se'j a school choir formed, and it would he impossible to do- that without a suitable piano. Funds for pianos were subsidised pound for pour d, and it should be easily possible to raise £lis in Stratford for a school piano. After discussion the whole matter was left in the hands of the chairman and tho Headmaster, with power to have the present r,iano reepaired. if thought advisable.
