Tho monthly meeting, of trie Str.ilford Domain Board wag held in tne Council Chambers hist evening. Tho Mayor (Mr J. W. McMillan) presid- i ird, and thore wore present —Cm S. Ward, O. R. Finnerty, A. Nelson, E. Curryer, T. Lav. on, \V. Mc- j Donald, W. Mclnnos, E S. Ruther- j furd, and Mr P. Thomjon. Cr. | Lamason was absent owing to an attack of influenza. Tho School Committee donated a

garden seat for Victoria Paxk.—Tho Board thanked tho committee for the donation. Mr James Fredric wrote asking tho Board to top or cut the pines facing Brecon Road, as they were so high that they, effectual 1., keep the sun from hi s property.—Loft in the hands of tho work 3 committee with power to act. In regard to the Page Street pinus insignus, it was resolved to call for tenders for their removal in view of tho good commercial pr'.position for the tenderer and the Board, and also tho benefit to tho properties adjacent. i Mrs J. White, hon. treasurer, Stratford Croquet Cub, forwarded statement of receipts anj expenditure to end of July 1923, showing: Receipts—B ilanco £25 Ms 3d, subscriptions £2O 7s 6d, donations 12s 6d, sale of hoops 6s, proceeds of dance £9 7s 9d; total £56 7s lid. Expenditure—Labor and upkeep of lawns £l6' 12s 6d, sundries £ls 8s 3d,, balance £24 7 S 2d. Since the statement was made up, the Club paid out £5 fo r labor, bringing the balance to £l9 7s 2d. The painting of the buildings and top-dressing next month would absorb nearly all tho money. Cheque for balance included.—Received.

Tho Curator (Mr V. B Forbes) reported as follows: Tlu. football grounds have been rolled. The now fence which was placed in tho site of tho old pate has been made higher. The hockey grounds have been ploughed and sown with oats. The gates donated by Mr Boon to the Victoria Park have been hung m the Cordelia Street entrance. The camelia trees donated by Mr P. Thomson to the Victoria Park have been lemoved from his property in Miranda Street and planted in the Park. All the paths in K.ug Ed ard Park have been given a coating of pit metal.—Recc'ved. Particulars in regard to the cost of improvement on Victoria Park were supplied by Mr Forbes as follows :

Wares £2051 9s lid, horses and drays £387 19s 2d, timber £l3 18s 6d, drain pipe» £6-1 225, metal £SO, reinforcing for posts £24, cement £ls 7s, sundries £2 12s 3d, grass soed £8 9s lOd, piping for fence £B7 os lid, wafer pipes £8 4 S 4d, 338 cubic yards pit metal £6O 16s, cement pipes and other material for lakt £57 Kts, purchase of plant, horse and dray, etc. £4O. Deduction from Sports Ground: eioaniri s lake £lO. Town Hall filling £lO, filling both ends of lake £39. water connection £59. Total cost £2950 17s lid, estimated cost £2900 18s 4d, sports ground £2725 4s 7d. Tho cost of the sports ground includes the following extras; E:,tra amount of ground levelled on northern end, approaches to terraces, preparation of ground for flower garden on western side, two extra drains, sowing and manuring of ground. Councillors considered the position as very satisfactory and creditable to the Foreman. It was resolved to reply to the Croquet Club that the Board did not consider it was advisable to top the trees. Mr Forbes was instructed to submit an estimate for P>V netting round the football area of Victoria Park. Or. M<Tnnes considered that whoever wero responsible for tho work of planting the punga s in Victoria Park were deserving of the best thanks of the community. In time the Park would, he was sure, bo one of the nicest places of recreation in Taranaki. Mr Thomson said ho had arranged with Mr Fume, headmaster of the Stratford Primary Sehoci, to hold an Arbor Day function on 23rd August, when tree-planting would be done on Hamlot and Pago streets.— The action of Mr Thomson was confirmed.
