Mr Masssey said the owners had agreed to the stakos tax on condition that it would be removed in two years' time. Ho made that promise and it was now his duty to keep it. Several speakers objected that this meant that tho promise of one- man bound the whole House. On tho Minister's motion the sta kes tax was reduced from 10 to 5 per cent. Six fillies from thoroughbred racing stock were shipped by the Zealandic at Liverpool yesterday for Mow Zealand.
