.'From Our Own Correspondent). In connection with the enlargement of Ackland School by eight feet, providing seating accommodation for thirty-two scholars, a concert and social was held. Mr M. M. Knox, chairman of the School Committee officially opened the school, and later acted as master of ceremonies at the dance, Mr Reg. Barleyman proTiding the music. Mr C. Franks lent the piano for the occasion, and this was much appreciated. During the evening, songs were contributed by Mrs J. Gibbs, Mr T. Gibbs, and part songs by the children, who were trained by Miss Franks. Altogether the evening proved an enjoyable one. Cows are now coming in well, and the calving season is a good one. Warm sunny weather is now looked for. The factory opened last Monday, a fortnight earlier than usual. After to-day (Monday) the factory will be receiving supplies every day. Although there has been some sickness in the district, the health of the scholars at the Ackland School has been good. Miss Fitzgerald is now acting teacher, a permanent teacher not having yet been appointed.
