Bird Road

A correspondent write-: The wind-up dance of the Bird Road Social and Euchre Club took place on Friday ,and those present, in spite of the inclemency of the weather, spent a most enjoyable evening. The dance, which was a "hard-up," drew numerous competitions for the real hard-up prizes. The '-sack" played a prominent part in many costumes, with the slag /bag close up. Much amusement was caused in endeavouring to recognise the various* competitors. It is to be li.ped that even in these hard times the role, was only assumed. Miss Hilda Death was awarded the bag of sugar (of minute proportions) for the lady's and Mr Martin Bilsta the tin of tea (also of minute proportions-) for the gent. Judging from appearances, one section's fare on a tram was afortune to thorn. M r Williams and 1). and H. Blackltock, who rendered vocal items during tue evening, acquitted themselves most admirably -Mr Williams and Miss Essie Crow were placed first in the waltzincr competition, with Mr Orr am] partner a close second. Mr Alex Coleman acted as judge. Extras were played by Miss Pego:y BTackstock. Mis s " L Coleman, and Miss Newman.
