"When it had bee* suggested to remove the tree-fern in question, in order to widen the road, the settlers had raised a great hue and cry. It was finally decided to instruct the Engineer to prosecute in future cases where the roads were interfered with.

The County Engineer reported to this morning's meeting of the Stratl rd County Council that the building of the machinery and motor shed was practically completed; and that in order to prolong the life of the old coal shed it would be necessary to carry out some repairs

At this morning's meeting of the Stratford County Council the Engineer reported as follows: "Ten railway trucks of Te Wera metal have been received at Douglas. The metal has been carted out and used in repair -work on the Douglas South and Ohura-Mangaehu Roads. The metal appears to be very good quality, clean and hard." Or. Walter (the chairman) said the metal supplied to the County was of very good quality. One could not wish for better. It was very well graded and was crushed to a nice workable size. It cost 9/- per yard, on trucks, Te Wera, though it could be got at S/- a yard, provided an order was given for 500 yards, delivery to bo taken at the convenience of the Department.
